Female Fight Chatter March 28th – Keela Byers, 60, of Lake Elsinore, California lost by knockout to 46-year-old Laura Ramsey in a female heavyweight bout on Saturday at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. It was an evenly matched and entertaining match that lasted until 1:21 of the third round when Ramsey (10-6, 5 Kos) connected with several thudding right hands. The taller Byers (1-1) landed many of her own blows but tired in the second round. Many of the crowd stood and cheered Byers as she walked out of the arena.

South Korea’s Hyun-Mi Choi (12-0-1) defeated Colombia’s Diana Ayala (19-12-4) by unanimous decision after 10 rounds to retain the WBA female super featherweight world title. The championship match took place Sunday in Gwanqmyeong, South Korea. Choi, a former featherweight titlist, was making her second defense of the super featherweight title.

In a female lightweight bout Isabelle Pare (3-0) beat Wendy Gervois (2-9) by majority decision after six rounds. The bout took place on Saturday in Allier, France. Pare lives and trains in Herault, France and Gervois in Nord, France.

Lourdes “Lulu” Juarez (15-2, 2 Kos) defeated Marlen Sandoval (1-4-2) by unanimous decision after four rounds of a light flyweight contest. Juarez, 29, is the younger sister of Mariana “Barbie” Juarez and lives in Mexico City. Sandoval, 19, is also from Mexico City but is originally from Guadalajara, Mexico. On the same fight card Brenda Fernandez (2-0) beat debuting Lizeth Zacarias (0-1) by decision in a light flyweight contest.

Sturovo, Slovakia hosted four female bouts on Tuesday, March 22. In a super middleweight match Zita Zatkyko (17-1-1) beat Tunde Berki (3-3) by unanimous decision after six rounds. A super welterweight match saw Melinda Lazar (3-3) take a win over Hungary’s Eva Kolos (3-4) by knockout in the third round.  A lightweight contest saw Zsofia Bedo (15-36-1) win by unanimous decision over Timea Grof (2-4) after six rounds. A featherweight clash saw Edina Kiss (5-0) remain undefeated by knockout of Julia Kiss (5-11) at 2:00 of the fourth round.

Hamburg, Germany hosted two female fights on last Sunday March 20. Sweden’s Maria Lindberg (14-1-2) stopped Timea Belik (0-2) at 58 seconds of the third round in their super welterweight match. In a welterweight clash Bintou Schmill (12-1) was upset by Ester Konecna (2-0) of Czech Republic after six rounds and lost by split decision.

Cindy Serrano (23-5-3) is scheduled to fight on Wednesday March 30, at the BB King Blues Club and Grill in New York City.

Argentina’s Ana Esteche (11-4-2) defends the WBA female super lightweight title against Farida El Hadrati (9-0, ) on Friday April 1, in France. Esteche, 26, fights out of Buenos Aires, Argentina and lost her last bout by decision in a non-title bout. Hadrati, 34, has won two of her last three fights by knockout.

In Sao Paulo, Brazil, Elica De Souza Santos (7-0) meets Sandy Mayara (0-1) in a light flyweight contest set for eight rounds on Sunday April 3. De Souza Santos, 23, is a southpaw who lives and fights out of Sao Paulo. Mayara, 16, is also from Sao Paulo and was knocked out in her pro debut by De Souza Santos last November.
