Cecilia Braekhus Looking for Suitable Opponent, No McCarter this time

Norway’s Cecilia Braekhus has been added to the fight card that features the male heavyweight championship fight card between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko for the WBA, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles perhaps on July 9, in Manchester, England.

“We’re still waiting on confirmation of that date,” said Tom Loeffler of K-2 Promotions.

Braekhus, 34, recently signed a promotional contract with K-2 Promotions the company belonging to the Klitschko brothers. Loeffler, who directs K-2, said that they are currently looking for a suitable opponent for Braekhus who holds all the welterweight titles that includes the WBC, WBA IBF, IBO and WBO belts.

Layla McCarter, who many consider the top female prizefighter in the world along with Braekhus, will not be fighting the welterweight champion but will be considered for a future super fight, said Loeffler.

McCarter, 37, captured world titles in the featherweight, lightweight, super lightweight and super welterweight divisions and has not lost a fight since 2007. Ironically, that’s the same year that Braekhus began fighting professionally.

“I’d love to fight Cecilia Braekhus,” said McCarter who recently attended a fund-raising event in Las Vegas this past Saturday. “Get me that fight.”

 

Australia

At Perth, Lauryn Eagle (14-4-1, 7 KOs) easily defeated debuting Alicia Pestana (0-1) after six three-minute rounds in a middleweight clash. The bout took place on Saturday May 7. Eagle, 28, fights out of Peakhurst, Australia.

 

Argentina

At Buenos Aires, Maricela Acuna (43-6-1) defeated Mayra Gomez (17-5) by unanimous decision after 10 rounds in a featherweight battle on Saturday May 7. Acuna, 39 had not fought since August 2014 despite holding the WBO super bantamweight world title. In her win on Saturday she became the interim WBA featherweight titlist. In another female bout, Daniela Bermudez (19-3-2) won by unanimous decision over Paola Benavidez (6-2-1) after eight rounds in a super bantamweight fight.

At Buenos Aires, Macarena Ledesma (3-0) defeated Estefania Alaniz (2-1-1) by unanimous decision after a four round lightweight clash on Friday May 6. Ledesma knocked down Alaniz once in the third round and also forced a standing count in the first round. Ledesma, 22, is nicknamed “La Diablita” and fights out of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Marisa Nunez (7-5-2) makes her first defense of the IBF female super lightweight title against Adela Peralta (7-0) on Saturday May 14, in Buenos Aires. They will also be fighting for the vacant WBO super lightweight title in a bout set for 10 rounds. Nunez, 32, fights out of Buenos Aires. Peralta, 28, also fights out of Buenos Aires.

 

Canada

Vanessa Joanisse (1-0) meets Annie Mazerolle (2-1) in a cruiserweight bout set at four rounds on Friday May 13. The match takes place in Montreal, Canada. Joanisse, 20, fights out of Saint Andre Avelin, Canada. Mazerolle, 32, lives in New Brunswick, Canada.

 

Italy

Loredana Piazza (11-3) faces Sandy Coget (7-4-1) in a flyweight clash set for 10 rounds on Friday May 13 in Torino, Italy. They will be fighting for the EBU flyweight title. Piazza, 36, lives and trains out of Torino, Italy. Coget, 27, lives and trains out of Courrieres, France and holds the France flyweight title.

 

Japan

Yumemi Ikemoto and Yumi Narita both make their pro debuts on Sunday May 15 in a flyweight bout set for four rounds in Okinawa, Japan.

 

Mexico

At Mexico City, Karla Zamora (3-2) won a split decision victory over Estefania Zapiain (1-2) after six rounds in a lightweight match on Saturday May 7. Zamora, just turned 23 the day before the fight and trains in Chimalhuacan a section of Mexico City. Zapiain fights out of Vera Cruz, Mexico and lost her second consecutive fight by split decision. Also, Maria Goreti Ramirez (2-4) defeated Luz Arguello (0-1) who was making her pro debut. The win came via decision after four rounds in a flyweight contest.

In Monterrey, Karen Acosta (2-0-1) and Daniela Lozoya (0-0-1) fought to a draw after four rounds of a super featherweight contest on Tuesday May 3. Acosta fights out of Monterrey, Mexico.

Mariana “Barbie” Juarez (42-8-4) faces Tamao Ozawa (10-2) in defense of the WBC International super flyweight title set for 10 rounds on Saturday May 14 in Mexico City. Juarez, 36, remains Mexico’s most popular and recognized female prizefighter and is a former flyweight and super bantamweight world champion. Ozawa, 30, lives and fights out of Kyoto, Japan and has a four-fight win streak.

 

Poland

In Tarnow, Ewa Piatkowska (9-1) won by unanimous decision against Karina Kopinska (6-11-3) after six rounds in a super lightweight clash on Saturday May 7. Piatkowska, 31, is the current EBU welterweight champion from Warsaw, but fought as a super lightweight. Kopinska, 27, usually fights as a featherweight but fought at 132 pounds for this fight.

Oleksandra Sidorenko (3-0) faces Klaudia Szymczak (2-7) in a six round lightweight bout on Saturday May 14. The fight takes place in Kozle, Poland.

 

Spain

In Madrid, Joana Pastrana (5-0) defeated Melinda Pantis (0-1) by decision who was making her pro debut in a four round minimum weight fight on Saturday May 7. Pastrana, 25, lives and trains in Madrid. Pantis, 21, lives and fights out of Pantelimon, Romania.

 

USA

In Melrose, Mass. Aleksandra Lopes (15-3-2) defeated Christina Campfort (4-2-1) by unanimous decision after eight three-minute rounds in a super welterweight match on Thursday May 5. Lopes, 36, is originally from Poland but now lives in Massachusetts. Campfort, 34, lives in Tampa, Florida.

Tyrieshia Douglas (10-1) meets Anahi Torres (13-13-1) in an eight round flyweight clash on Saturday May 14 in Lutherville, Maryland. Douglas, 27, fights out of Baltimore, Maryland. Torres, 27, fights out of Mexico City and usually fights as a mini-flyweight which is two weight divisions lower.
